Almeria is one of the sunniest cities in Spain, with more than 3000 hours of sunshine a year. It is located on the south-east coast of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. It is a very old city that was founded in 955 AD by Abderramán III.
At the top of the city is La Alcazaba, a 10th century Arab fortress, an impressive place from which you can see the city and the coast. In the historic centre you can see the walls and buildings with different architectural styles, as well as enjoy the gastronomy with some authentic Andalusian tapas.
Almeria has exceptional landscapes, from the Tabernas Desert, the only desert in Europe, to Cabo de Gata, a spectacular protected natural environment.

• Almería is famous for its large extension of greenhouses, which cover more than 30,000 hectares. These greenhouses produce fruits and vegetables that are exported throughout Europe.
